Chapter 9 - A New Reign at the EstateA month later, the Caldwell estate looked entirely transformed. The gloomy, oppressive atmosphere that Vanessa had cultivated like a shroud was completely gone. The heavy velvet drapes were pulled back to let the brilliant Boston sunshine flood every hallway.

I stood on the grand balcony outside my new master suite—the very suite that had once belonged to my missing mother. My hair had been neatly trimmed by a professional stylist into a sleek, powerful bob that accentuated my sharp cheekbones and commanding gaze.

Old Thomas walked up the grand staircase, carrying a silver tray with morning coffee.

"Good morning, Madam," Thomas said with a warm, respectful smile, his eyes twinkling with pride.

"Good morning, Thomas," I replied, taking the cup. "How are preparations for the corporate restructuring meeting going?"

"Exemplary," Thomas reported. "The board is fully cooperative. Richard has stepped down voluntarily to undergo rehabilitation and legal settlement negotiations. As for Vanessa..." Thomas paused, a slight smirk playing on his lips. "Her trial date has been set. Her high-priced defense lawyers are dropping her one by one now that her hidden offshore accounts have been frozen under your legal mandate."

I looked out over the sweeping emerald lawns, the distant sparkling fountains, and the grand gates of the estate where I had once stood as a terrified, overworked maid holding a cleaning rag.
