Chapter 18 - The Cornerstone

September arrived, bringing with it the crisp, golden bite of autumn air to New York State.

The Mercer-Brooks estate was finally complete.

It wasn't a cold, intimidating fortress of marble and glass anymore. It was a sprawling, warm modern farmhouse surrounded by maple trees, stone pathways, and a sprawling backyard where golden retrievers barked and children's laughter echoed from the newly built sunroom.

On a bright Saturday morning, a small, intimate gathering of friends and family gathered on the front lawn.

There were no executives, no board members, and no tabloid reporters. Just Dr. Sarah Bennett—who had driven up from the city—Lev, Victoria Vance, and a handful of trusted colleagues who had stood by them through the fire.

Hannah stood inside the master dressing room, adjusting the bodice of her simple, elegant ivory lace dress. Her dark hair was styled in soft waves around her shoulders, a single pearl hairpin catching the morning light.

The door creaked open.

Avery walked in, wearing a matching miniature ivory dress with a red velvet sash, holding a small woven basket filled with white rose petals.

"Mommy," Avery whispered, her hazel eyes wide with awe. "You look like a queen."

May you like

Hannah knelt down, pulling her daughter into a fierce, joyful embrace. "Thank you, my sweet bug. Are you ready to throw some flowers?"

"Ready!" Avery beamed.
