Chapter 24 - The Girl from the Ravine

Ten minutes later, the shivering young woman was seated by the massive stone fireplace in the drawing-room, wrapped in a thick wool blanket while a housekeeper poured her a cup of hot tea.
Hannah knelt down beside her, handing her a dry towel. "It's okay. You're safe here. What's your name?"
The girl looked up. Her eyes were wide, bloodshot, and frantic. "My name is Chloe. You... you're Hannah Brooks, right? And he's Ethan Mercer?"
Ethan stepped into the room, his posture guarded. "How do you know our names?"
Chloe clutched the blanket tighter around her shoulders, her hands trembling violently. "Because I used to work for Jocelyn Cole at her retirement residence in Boca Raton. And two nights ago... she threw away a locked metal box before she left the facility in a panic."
Ethan froze. "What kind of box?"

Chloe reached into the pocket of her wet coat and pulled out a small, water-damaged leather ledger with a brass clasp.
"The kind with your father's private seal on it," Chloe whispered. "And inside... it proves that Jocelyn didn't just lie about Hannah leaving five years ago. She framed someone else to make sure you never looked for the truth."
