Chapter 28 - The Foundation Gala

November brought the annual gala for the Mercer-Brooks Foundation, hosted in the grand ballroom of the Plaza Hotel in Manhattan.

Unlike the cold, intimidating society events of Ethan's past, this ballroom was filled with local community leaders, scholarship recipients, single mothers who had found housing through the foundation's programs, and architects working on affordable urban development.

Hannah stood at the podium in a stunning emerald-green silk gown, her voice steady, clear, and commanding the attention of the entire room.

"True architecture isn't just about building skyscrapers that touch the sky," Hannah told the crowd, her gaze sweeping over the sea of attentive faces. "It's about building foundations that support human lives when the ground beneath them gives way. Thank you for helping us build a home."

Thunderous applause filled the ballroom.

As she stepped down from the stage, Ethan was waiting for her at the base of the stairs. He pulled her into his arms, kissing her deeply in front of hundreds of cheering guests, completely unbothered by the flashing cameras of the philanthropic press.
