Chapter 21 - Shadows on the Blueprint

The autumn air grew crisper as October settled over the Mercer-Brooks estate. Inside her sunlit architectural studio on the second floor, Hannah bent over a large drafting table, sketching expansion plans for a community housing initiative funded by the foundation.

The door creaked open, revealing Ethan holding two mugs of steaming coffee.

"You've been in here for four hours straight," Ethan said softly, setting a mug beside her blueprints and wrapping his arms around her waist from behind, resting his chin on her shoulder.

"I'm just finishing the layout for the Queens community center," Hannah smiled, leaning back into his embrace. "It feels surreal that we're actually building something that helps people instead of fighting corporate raiders."

Ethan kissed her temple. "You earned every brick, Hannah. Speaking of work... I have a surprise for you tonight. Clear your calendar for seven."

"A surprise?" Hannah raised an eyebrow. "Is this another corporate gala where I have to wear a designer gown and pretend I love small talk?"

"Nothing of the sort," Ethan laughed. "Just dress warmly."
