Chapter 27 - Clearing the Air

With Jocelyn’s indictment finalized and her legal power permanently eradicated, a profound sense of closure finally settled over the Mercer-Brooks household.

The dark cloud that had hovered over Ethan for five long years dissipated entirely. The guilt, the resentment, and the lingering doubts were replaced by an absolute, unshakable peace.

On a warm Saturday afternoon in late October, Hannah and Ethan sat on the wide front porch of their estate, watching Avery chase a golden retriever across the emerald lawn.

"You know," Hannah said, resting her head against Ethan’s shoulder as he wrapped his arm around her. "For a long time, I thought the hardest part of our story was the day I had to walk away."

Ethan kissed the top of her head. "And now?"
