Chapter 10 - A New Dawn

Central Park was alive with the vibrant green of early summer.

Ava pushed a sleek double stroller down the shaded path, the dappled sunlight playing across the faces of her two daughters, Chloe and Claire. They were six months old now, laughing, babbling, and grabbing at the air with strong, healthy hands.

Footsteps crunched on the gravel behind her.

She didn't need to turn around to know who it was.

Elias caught up to her, falling into step beside the stroller. He reached down and picked up a tiny pink rattle that Claire had dropped, handing it back with a solemn, practiced seriousness that made Ava smile.

"You're spoiling them," Ava said, her eyes warm.

"I'm just making up for lost time," Elias replied, glancing down at the twins with a soft, protective gaze that he reserved exclusively for them.

Ava stopped walking and turned to face him, the Manhattan skyline rising majestically behind them like a monument to a past life that no longer existed.

"Thank you, Elias," she whispered. "For everything."

Elias looked up, meeting her eyes, the cold mafia boss completely vanishing beneath the warmth of a man who had finally found something worth protecting.

"We're just getting started, Ava," he said, offering her his arm. "Let's go home."
