Chapter 8 - The Return of the Queen

Forty-eight hours later, the front-page headline of The Wall Street Journal sent shockwaves through the New York financial elite:

MILLER EMPIRE COLLAPSES OVERNIGHT: CEO ARRESTED ON FEDERAL FRAUD CHARGES; ASSETS TRANSFERRED TO MYSTERIOUS PHILANTHROPIST.

Inside a sunlit penthouse overlooking Central Park—not Daniel's old apartment, but a magnificent, sprawling estate on Fifth Avenue owned by Elias Vance—Ava stood by the window, watching the snow melt under the pale morning sun.

She wore a cashmere robe, her skin glowing with health, her strength returning faster than the doctors had predicted.

The door opened softly, and Elias walked in carrying a silver tray with two steaming cups of coffee.

"You shouldn't be out of bed," Elias said gently, setting the tray down on the marble table.

"I'm tired of bed," Ava smiled, turning to look at him. For the first time in years, there was no shadow of fear in her eyes. "Sarah told me you bought this place yesterday. Elias... you don't have to keep doing this. You've already given me my freedom."

"It's not a gift, Ava," Elias said, stopping a few feet away from her. "It's an investment in a new beginning."

Just then, twin cries drifted from the adjoining nursery. Ava laughed—a bright, musical sound that made Elias's chest tighten in a way no boardroom battle ever could.

"Duty calls," Ava whispered, turning toward the nursery.

Elias watched her go, feeling a strange, unfamiliar warmth settle into his chest. For ten years, his life had been defined by cold vengeance. But looking at Ava and the two little girls sleeping peacefully in the next room, he realized his war was finally over.
