Chapter 4 - The Ghost from the Past

Elias Vance stood on the snow-covered roof of the adjacent skyscraper, his dark coat billowing in the wind like the wings of a predatory bird. Beside him, a team of tactical specialists clad in matte-black gear hovered around a military-grade industrial glass cutter.

"The perimeter is secure, Boss," Lev reported into his comms. "No police. No witnesses. The building management has been... compensated."

Elias watched through the swirling snow as the circular diamond-tipped blade sliced effortlessly through the multi-layered bulletproof glass of Daniel's penthouse skylight.

Fifteen years ago, Elias had been a desperate nineteen-year-old kid in Queens, watching his family lose everything to a predatory corporate raider named Richard Miller—Daniel's father. That financial ruin had driven Elias's younger sister, Elena, to despair, ending in a tragedy that Elias had sworn a blood oath to avenge. He had spent a decade climbing out of the gutters, building an empire specifically to crush the Miller family into dust.

And now, fate had dropped Daniel Miller's wife and newborn twin daughters—Elena's spiritual nieces through a bizarre twist of fate involving Ava’s true lineage—right into his arms.

Ava was currently resting safely in the back of Elias’s heated medical van, surrounded by top-tier neonatal specialists. She was going to live.

And Daniel Miller was going to pay.

CRASH.

The heavy glass panel of the skylight fell inward, shattering into a million glittering fragments across Daniel’s expensive Persian rug.

Before Daniel could scream, three black-clad operatives dropped from the ceiling on heavy rappel lines, moving with terrifying, silent precision. Within seconds, Daniel was pinned to the floor, his face pressed hard against the shattered glass of his whiskey glass.

"Get off me! Do you know who I am?!" Daniel choked out, spitting blood.

Heavy, deliberate footsteps echoed across the penthouse floor.

Elias Vance stepped down from the indoor balcony, descending the grand staircase like an executioner entering a courtroom. He wasn't wearing a mask. His cold, dark eyes locked onto Daniel with a predatory stillness.

"I know exactly who you are, Daniel," Elias said softly, stopping a few feet away. "You're a man who doesn't like girls."
