Chapter 10 - THE FINAL PROMISEThe sun dipped below the horizon, painting the sky in brilliant shades of violet and gold. Inside the grand study of the Hayes Estate, Daniel stood before the tall French doors, watching the stars begin to twinkle above the city skyline.

A soft knock echoed at the door, and Maya stepped into the room, holding a sleeping Aria in her arms while Noah trailed quietly behind her, holding onto the hem of her shirt.
"They're both asleep," Maya whispered softly, leaning against the doorframe.
Daniel turned around, walking slowly toward them. He knelt down so he was eye-level with Noah, gently placing a hand on the boy's small shoulder.
"You did good today, champ," Daniel said warmly.
Noah looked up, a tiny, shy smile touching the corners of his mouth. Then, in a clear, unbroken voice that pierced straight through Daniel's soul, the boy spoke:
"Can Maya read us a bedtime story... Dad?"
Daniel froze. The word hung in the air—Dad. He hadn't heard his son say it in over two years. A thick wave of emotion choked his throat, and tears welled up in his dark eyes. He looked up at Maya, whose own eyes were shimmering with bright, happy tears.
Daniel stood up, wrapping one strong arm around Noah’s small shoulders and pulling Maya close against his side, completing a circle of warmth and protection that no syndicate, no enemy, and no tragedy could ever break.
