Chapter 3 - SECRETS BURIED IN STERILE WHITEThe rain hammered against the reinforced windows of the private VIP wing at City General Hospital, a place Daniel Hayes hadn't set foot in since the night Elena died. Back then, the corridors had smelled of bleach, iron, and impending tragedy. Tonight, they smelled of terror.

Chief Administrator Vance was sweating profusely through his tailored shirt, his hands trembling as he unlocked the heavy steel door at the end of the restricted basement hallway.
"Mr. Hayes, I swear on my life, we didn't know," Vance stammered, his keys clattering against the metal lock. "The order came from the top. High-level security protocol during the syndicate war two years ago. To protect your family from rival factions, Dr. Sterling classified the records and placed the second infant in an off-the-books foster program under permanent seal."
Daniel didn't answer. Every footstep he took echoed like a gunshot down the desolate corridor. Behind him, Maya walked at a hesitant distance, guarded by two of Daniel’s most trusted enforcers, Marcus and Leo. She hadn't wanted to come, but Daniel had refused to let her out of his sight. Something about her presence tonight felt like the missing piece of a jagged, blood-stained puzzle.
The door swung open, revealing a sterile, dimly lit room filled with high-tech monitoring equipment that had been running in absolute isolation for twenty-four months. And sitting in a corner chair, wrapped in a faded blue blanket, was a little girl with the exact same midnight-black hair and piercing eyes as Noah.
Daniel froze. His knees felt weak. He stepped forward, dropping to his knees before the crib. The little girl looked up, sucking on her thumb, completely unafraid.
"Aria," Maya whispered from the doorway, her voice trembling as she read the name tag on the crib.
Daniel whipped his head around. "How do you know her name?"
May you like
Maya stepped closer, her eyes wide with a sudden, suffocating realization. She reached into her battered canvas backpack, her fingers shaking uncontrollably as she pulled out a crumpled, water-stained hospital document from twenty-four years ago—her own adoption papers, stamped by the very same corrupt agency that Dr. Sterling had run before taking over the hospital board.
"Because," Maya breathed, tears spilling over her lashes, "Dr. Sterling didn't just hide a child... he stole my sister, too."
