Chapter 16 - THE THREAT RETURNEDJust as peace seemed to settle permanently over the estate, the heavy iron security gates at the front entrance suddenly buzzed with an urgent, jarring signal.

Daniel instantly pulled back, his instincts as a syndicate leader snapping back into place. His eyes darkened. He tapped the wrist comm linked to the estate's security system.
"Marcus, report. What's at the gate?" Daniel demanded, his voice dropping an octave.
Static hissed through the comm speaker, followed by the sound of heavy breathing. "Boss... we have a problem. You need to look at the outer security cameras immediately."
Daniel pulled out his encrypted satellite phone, swiping swiftly through the app to pull up the live feed from the front gate.
Standing outside the massive iron bars, soaked in a sudden downpour of rain, was a figure no one expected to ever see again.
Victoria.
Her designer coat was torn and muddy, her hair wild and matted, and her face bruised and battered. But worst of all, she wasn't alone. Standing beside her was a tall, scarred man holding a heavy industrial bolt cutter against the lock of the gate, while two armed mercenaries aimed assault rifles directly at the security camera lens.
"She made a deal with the Russian syndicate," Daniel hissed, rage flaring in his chest like wildfire. "She traded our security codes for a clean escape from federal custody."

Maya stood up from the bench, her eyes narrowing with cold, calculating fury. "She thinks she can take my family away from me?"
"Not a chance," Daniel replied, pulling a heavy, suppressed pistol from his jacket holster and handing a secondary weapon to Marcus, who had just rushed across the lawn. "Let's finish this once and for all."
