Chapter 11 - WHISPERS IN THE ARCHIVES

The morning sun cast long, golden shadows across the polished oak floors of the Hayes Estate study. While Noah and Aria were still asleep, Daniel sat at his grand mahogany desk, reviewing the digital files retrieved from Dr. Sterling’s confiscated servers.

Maya stood by the floor-to-ceiling window, holding a cup of black coffee, watching the gardeners tend to the roses outside. Even though she now had designer clothes, a safe room, and a family that adored her, the restless ghost of her past still lingered.

"Find something interesting?" Maya asked, her voice calm yet laced with quiet tension.

Daniel turned his laptop screen toward her. "Sterling was meticulous, but he was also arrogant. These financial logs go back twenty-four years—the exact week you and your twin sister were separated. He didn't just traffic infants for black-market adoptions; he used them as leverage against high-ranking members of the city's municipal council."

Maya stepped closer, her eyes scanning the digitized adoption documents stamped with false seals. "So the people who shut down my restaurant overnight... the landlord who threw me out on the street... it wasn't a coincidence, was it?"

Daniel’s jaw tightened, a dark, dangerous shadow passing over his features. "No. Someone on the city council—someone with deep ties to Sterling’s old network—is still pulling strings. They knew you were looking for answers, and they tried to break you before you even found this house."

Maya set her coffee cup down, her knuckles resting lightly on the edge of the desk. There was no fear in her eyes anymore—only a cold, sharp resolve. "Then we flush them out."
