Chapter 8 - THE PRICE OF SINBang.

The bullet struck the wooden desk a fraction of an inch from Sterling’s hand, the impact showering him in splinters. Sterling shrieked, falling backward into his leather swivel chair with his hands raised in surrender.

"Try it," Daniel said coldly, lowering his smoking weapon an inch. "And the next one goes through your skull."

Maya walked up to the trembling doctor, towering over him with a quiet, terrifying dignity. She reached across the desk, snatching the metal passport case and tossing it onto the floor at Daniel's feet.

"You ruined thousands of lives," Maya said softly, her eyes blazing with righteous fury. "You thought poor girls on the street had no one to protect them. You thought you were untouchable."

"Please—Hayes, listen to me!" Sterling sobbed, tears streaming down his wrinkled face. "I can give you everything! Offshore accounts, bearer bonds, the names of the board members who backed the syndicate! Just don't kill me!"

Daniel looked down at the cowering man with utter disgust. He didn't fire his weapon. Instead, he pulled out his encrypted phone and dialed a preset number.

"Agent Miller? This is Daniel Hayes," Daniel said smoothly. "I'm sending you the encrypted hard drives and biometric proof of Dr. Sterling’s entire human trafficking ring. You have exactly ten minutes to arrest him before my men lose their patience."

Sterling let out a ragged gasp of relief, thinking he had escaped a summary execution. "Thank you... thank you, Mr. Hayes—"

"Don't thank me yet," Daniel interrupted, his voice dropping to an arctic chill. "Federal prison in maximum security is a very long, very dark place, Doctor. And I've already paid every single inmate in your block to ensure you never sleep a single night of your life."

As federal agents swarmed the office moments later, slapping handcuffs on the sobbing doctor and dragging him away, the heavy weight in the room finally began to lift.
