Chapter 11 - The Inheritance of Shadows

The autumn wind carried a sharp chill through the Boston streets, but inside the federal detention center, the air was entirely dead. Arthur Vance sat behind thick reinforced glass, his once-impeccable silver hair disheveled, his tailored suit replaced by a coarse orange jumpsuit.
Adrian stood on the other side of the glass, holding the receiver tightly. He didn't feel triumph; he felt only a heavy, hollow fatigue.
"You think you’ve won, boy," Arthur rasped, his voice vibrating through the static-filled speaker. "You think destroying the corporate structure washes away the sins of your grandfather? The foundation of Whitmore Infrastructure was built on bodies long before Julian or I ever touched a ledger. There are things buried so deep even the federal marshals will never find them."
Adrian stared coldly at the old man who had manipulated his family for decades. "If there are more skeletons, Arthur, I’ll dig them up myself. But your reign of terror is over."
May you like
"Is it?" Arthur let out a dry, rattling laugh. "Check the secondary trust account tied to your mother's maiden name. The one your grandfather established in Zurich. You're not the sole heir, Adrian. Someone else holds fifty-one percent of the voting shares. And they’ve been waiting for you to tear the house down."
The line went dead with a harsh click. Adrian slowly pulled the receiver away from his ear, a sudden spike of adrenaline piercing his chest. A secondary trust? Another heir? The game wasn't over. It had just evolved.
