Chapter 33 - The Nursery at Dusk

That evening, the private residential wing of the estate was filled with the soft, comforting sounds of domestic life.

The twins—now settled into custom-made cribs in the newly renovated nursery—were cooing softly, their tiny hands batting at a mobile of twinkling stars dangling above them.

Hannah sat in the plush velvet rocking chair, nursing their baby girl while Ethan walked the baby boy across the room, murmuring soft, unintelligible nonsense syllables that made the infant giggle.

“You know,” Ethan said, glancing over at Hannah with a tired, affectionate smile, “we technically own this entire property now. Every square inch of limestone, garden, and archive belongs to us.”

Hannah laughed softly, resting her cheek against the baby's soft curls. “That’s a lot of space for two tired parents and a pair of six-month-olds.”

“Then we change it,” Ethan said, walking over to kneel beside her chair. He took her free hand, lacing his fingers through hers. “No more guards at the gate. No more secret codes. I want to turn the west wing into an independent community pediatric clinic funded by the Vance Foundation. Let’s open the doors and let actual life back into this house.”

Hannah looked down into Ethan’s dark, earnest eyes, seeing the man she had fallen in love with in a tiny, cramped apartment years ago—before the money, before the lies, before the corporate war.

“I love you, Dr. Caldwell,” she whispered, her heart swelling.

“And I love you, Dr. Vance-Caldwell,” Ethan replied, leaning in to press his lips gently against hers in a sweet, lingering kiss.
