Chapter 10 - A New Dawn

Three months later, the Buckhead estate looked entirely different.
The cold, sterile minimalism that Olivia had imposed was gone, replaced by warmth, life, and genuine laughter. Fresh wildflowers sat in every vase, arranged not by paid decorators, but by hands that appreciated their simple beauty.
In the sunlit kitchen, Sophie—now officially graduated with her nursing assistant certification—was pouring fresh iced tea while her brother Ethan raided the pantry for cookies.
Margaret sat by the bay window, knitting a colorful blanket, humming softly to herself as she watched the morning light spill across the immaculate marble floor.
Michael walked into the kitchen, wearing a simple linen shirt instead of his usual corporate armor. He walked straight up to Sophie, wrapping his arms gently around her waist from behind and resting his chin on her shoulder.
Sophie tilted her head back, smiling as she leaned into his embrace. “You’re up early.”
“Didn’t want to miss breakfast,” Michael murmured, pressing a soft kiss to her temple. “Besides, I have somewhere important to be this afternoon.”
“Oh? And where is that?” Sophie asked, turning around in his arms to face him, her eyes sparkling with quiet amusement.
“A small clinic downtown,” Michael smiled, his heart feeling lighter than it ever had in his entire life. “A certain newly certified nursing assistant is starting her first shift, and I promised her personal escort service.”
Sophie’s smile radiated pure joy, entirely unpretentious, completely real. She wrapped her arms around his neck, pulling him close.

“You know, Mr. Michael,” she whispered teasingly, “you’re getting awfully comfortable around this kitchen.”
“Get used to it,” Michael whispered back, his eyes full of a future he had finally chosen for himself. “Some things are worth cleaning up for life.”
