Chapter 16 - The Final Confession

The interrogation room at the downtown precinct was stark, lit by a harsh, flickering fluorescent bulb overhead.

Olivia sat at the metal table, her designer clothes rumpled, her hair slightly out of place. Her usual cold composure had fractured into a desperate, feral panic. The door clicked open, and Michael walked in, standing silently on the other side of the glass partition.

Olivia looked up, her eyes widening with a mixture of hatred and sheer disbelief.

“You did this,” she whispered, her voice trembling with venom. “You actually sicced federal investigators on me over a few text messages?”

“I protected my family,” Michael said, his voice entirely devoid of emotion. He looked down at her as if she were a stranger he had never truly known. “You crossed the line from corporate rivalry into criminal harassment, Olivia. You thought your name and your money would protect you from accountability.”

“Money is the only thing that matters in this city!” Olivia shrieked, slamming her cuffed hands against the table. “You’re nothing without it! You’re just the son of a cleaning lady playing dress-up in a rich man’s house!”

Michael didn't flinch. He didn’t get angry. He simply smiled—a calm, quiet smile that hit her harder than any blow ever could.

“You’re right about one thing, Olivia,” Michael said softly, turning toward the door. “My mother was a cleaning lady. And she taught me how to clean out trash.”

He walked out of the room, leaving her screaming into the empty air, completely and utterly alone.
