Chapter 12 - Margaret’s Ultimatum

In the sprawling, heavily guarded mansion in Chestnut Hill, Margaret Prescott was losing control of her dynasty. The board had officially locked her out of corporate decision-making, and her social circle had systematically iced her out.

The heavy oak doors of her study swung open without warning. Aaron stood there, unshaven, his eyes hollow, clutching a stack of legal notices.

"Mother, you have to help me," Aaron pleaded, his voice cracking. "Nathan Brooks just filed a motion to invalidate the prenuptial protections. They’re coming after the family trust."

Margaret slammed her antique fountain pen onto her mahogany desk, her eyes blazing with absolute fury. "I told you to control that woman, Aaron! I warned you that keeping a quiet wife required absolute vigilance, but you let your arrogance blind you!"

"It's not my fault—"

"Shut up!" Margaret shrieked, standing up so fast her chair scraped loudly across the hardwood floor. "Do you have any idea what your father built this company on? And you handed it to a girl who grew up in the shadow of Sterling Capital like a fool playing chess against a grandmaster!"

Margaret picked up her landline phone, her hands trembling with rage. "I am calling our senior counsel. We will fight Claire Prescott in every court in Massachusetts until she is bankrupt."

"It's too late, Mother," Aaron whispered, his knees buckling as he sank into a leather armchair. "Sterling Capital owns our primary debt. They don't even have to sue us anymore. They can foreclose whenever they want."
