Chapter 3 - The Inheritance Unveiled

Inside Nathan Brooks’ sunlit office, the atmosphere was a stark contrast to the chaos unfolding across Boston. Claire sat calmly, sipping her Americano, while Nathan reviewed a thick folder of meticulously organized financial documents.

"Let’s talk about this minority stake," Nathan said, leaning forward, resting his elbows on the mahogany desk. "You mentioned your grandfather left it to you. Who was your grandfather?"

"Arthur Sterling," Claire replied softly.

Nathan froze. The pen dropped from his hand, rolling across the desk. "Arthur Sterling? The founder of Sterling Capital Holdings? The venture capital giant that quietly funds half the tech infrastructure in New England?"

"Yes."

"And you own a stake in it?"

"Twenty-two percent," Claire said casually, as if discussing grocery lists. "It was transferred into an irrevocable private trust on my twenty-fifth birthday, entirely separate from my marriage to Aaron. When Aaron and I married, his attorneys had me sign a standard prenuptial agreement protecting his family's assets. They never asked about mine because they assumed, based on my quiet background, that I had nothing of value."

Nathan let out a long, low whistle, shaking his head in sheer disbelief. "Aaron’s family’s entire net worth is tied up in Prescott Global, and right now, Prescott Global’s stock is tanking because of your Slack message. Meanwhile, Sterling Capital is preparing to launch a hostile buyout of Prescott Global's biggest competitor."

"Which is why we aren't going to negotiate," Claire said, her eyes flashing with a cold, absolute clarity. "We are going to dismantle them legally, systematically, and completely."
