Chapter 5 - The Confrontation at Chestnut Hill

Desperate and cornered, Aaron drove straight to his mother’s estate in Chestnut Hill, only to find his sister, Chloe, pacing furiously in the grand driveway.

"What did you do?" Chloe shrieked as Aaron stepped out of his car. "Mother is inside talking to her cardiologist because her blood pressure won't go down! And my husband’s firm just pulled out of their co-investment deal with Prescott Global because of your scandal!"

"It was a mistake, Chloe! Claire overreacted!" Aaron shouted back, losing his composure entirely.

"An overreaction?" A calm, chillingly familiar voice cut through the afternoon air.

Both Aaron and Chloe spun around. Walking up the pristine stone pathway was Claire, flanked by two men in sharp charcoal suits—Nathan Brooks and a senior forensic accountant from Sterling Capital. She wasn't wearing her usual understated domestic attire; she wore a tailored ivory pantsuit that commanded absolute authority.

"Claire," Aaron stammered, stepping toward her with a desperate expression. "Thank God. Let's talk inside. Just you and me. We can fix this—"

"Don't touch me, Aaron," Claire said smoothly, stopping two feet away from him. She didn't raise her voice, but every word carried the weight of a sledgehammer. "You aren't talking to your wife anymore. You're talking to Sterling Capital's primary stakeholder."

Chloe gasped, staring at her sister-in-law in sheer incomprehension. "What are you talking about? You're just a quiet girl from a normal family!"

"My family kept a very low profile," Claire replied, her gaze fixed entirely on Aaron’s horrified face. "Unlike yours, we didn't need to posture, pretend, or live on borrowed credit and inflated corporate valuations to feel important."

Nathan stepped forward, handing Aaron a thick manila envelope. "Mr. Prescott, you are officially being served with divorce papers, a restraining order preventing you from entering any properties owned by Claire Prescott, and a federal notice of financial audit regarding corporate embezzlement."
