Chapter 13 - The New Empire

Inside the gleaming obsidian-and-glass skyscraper of Sterling Capital, Claire sat behind a massive minimalist desk on the sixty-first floor. The view spanned the entire Boston skyline, capturing the harbor where the Atlantic met the city.

A soft knock interrupted her review of the morning reports. Nathan Brooks walked in, holding a sleek black leather portfolio.

"The paperwork for the Prescott asset transfer is complete," Nathan said, sitting down opposite her. "With the prenuptial agreement invalidated by Aaron’s concealment of offshore funds, the court approved the emergency seizure of his personal accounts. Everything is liquidated."

Claire didn't look up from her tablet immediately. She tapped the glass screen once, watching the data refresh. "And Prescott Global?"

"Restructured under a completely new holding entity," Nathan answered with a grin. "Your grandfather’s board voted unanimously to appoint you as the primary non-executive chair of the board. Effective immediately, you control the very company Aaron used to look down on you from."

Claire finally raised her eyes. There was no triumph in them—only absolute, chilling calm. "He used to tell me that business was a man’s game, Nathan. That my place was to keep his clothes pressed and his schedule clear so he could focus on 'real power.'"

"Well," Nathan chuckled softly, "it turns out he was right about one thing. It is a game. He just forgot to check who owned the board."
