Chapter 6 - Jasmine’s Betrayal

While Aaron stood paralyzed in the driveway, his phone—which he had turned back on ten minutes ago—began buzzing violently. It was a video call from Jasmine.
With shaking hands, Aaron answered it.
The screen didn't show Jasmine’s luxury apartment. Instead, it showed a dimly lit hotel lobby, suitcases piled high behind her.
"Jasmine? Where are you?" Aaron asked frantically.
"I'm at Logan Airport, Aaron," Jasmine said, her voice completely devoid of warmth or affection. "I just checked my personal bank account. Your mother’s corporate slush fund account—the one you promised would take care of me if things went south—has been frozen by the federal audit."
"You can't leave me now! I'm fighting for my life here!" Aaron yelled, completely forgetting that his family and legal team were standing right beside him.

"I’m looking out for myself, Aaron. Just like you looked out for yourself every time you stayed out all night thinking your wife was too stupid to notice," Jasmine replied coldly before abruptly hanging up, severing the connection forever.
Aaron stared blankly at the black screen of his phone. The silence in the Chestnut Hill driveway was deafening. His career was in ruins, his lover had abandoned him the second the money stopped, his family name was being dragged through every tabloid in New England, and the woman he had spent three years treating like a ghost was the architect of his total destruction.
