Chapter 14 - The New FoundationTwo months later, the morning sun reflected brilliantly off the newly repainted front porch of the suburban home. A wooden swing hung gently from the rafters, and flower boxes overflowing with bright red geraniums lined the windowsills—a complete transformation from the cold, intimidating fortress it used to be.

Arthur stood on the lawn, holding a hammer as he helped Leo build a wooden birdhouse.
"Hold it steady right there, buddy," Arthur instructed, guiding Leo's small hands as he hammered the final nail into the roof.
"We did it!" Leo cheered, lifting the birdhouse up with a proud grin. "Now the birds have a safe house too!"
A car door slammed down the driveway. Arthur looked up to see Marcus stepping out of his sedan, carrying a thick binder stamped with official state court seals.
"Special delivery from the county clerk," Marcus announced with a grin, walking up the driveway. "The final adoption decree is fully processed. No temporary guardianship, no legal loopholes. You are officially, permanently, legally their father on paper as well as in their hearts."
Arthur took the document, feeling a profound weight lift from his shoulders. He flipped open the folder and signed his name on the final line with a steady, confident hand.

"Thanks for everything, Marcus," Arthur said, shaking his friend's hand. "More than you know."
"Don't mention it," Marcus replied, looking over at Maya and Leo playing in the yard. "You took down a corporate empire and saved two kids. I'd say you earned a quiet life."
