Six months after her dramatic arrest, Victoria Sterling sat inside a federal courtroom to hear the jury's verdict. The trial had been a media circus, broadcasting the systematic corruption, financial fraud, and human cruelty of the Sterling family to a disgusted public.
The foreperson of the jury stood up, holding a crisp white paper envelope.
"On Count One: Corporate Embezzlement, how does the jury find the defendant, Victoria Sterling?"
"Guilty," the foreperson replied clearly.
Count after count piled up—forgery, conspiracy, obstruction of justice, and witness tampering. When the final tally was read, Victoria’s face was completely bloodless. She stared straight ahead, realizing with agonizing clarity that her family name, her wealth, and her expensive attorneys could not save her from the cage she had built for herself.
The judge slammed his gavel down with a sharp, echoing crack.
