Maya walked inside to grab a glass of water and paused, staring briefly at the television screen. On it, footage showed Victoria being led into the federal courthouse in handcuffs, her head bowed low, shielded by defense attorneys from the flashing camera lights.
Maya watched for a moment, her expression neutral, untouched by anger or fear. The woman on the screen was nothing more than a stranger from a bad dream that had finally ended.
"Maya?" Arthur called out gently from the doorway, stepping inside. "Everything okay?"
Maya turned around, a bright, radiant smile breaking across her face. "Yeah, Uncle Arthur. Everything is perfect."
