Chapter 8 - The Siege at the CabinThe crunch of heavy gravel outside the cabin shattered the tense silence.

Arthur’s head snapped toward the front window. Through the dusty glass panes, he saw two black unmarked SUVs rolling slowly up the overgrown tree-lined driveway, their headlights off. Men in tactical gear poured out of the vehicles, weapons raised, moving with military precision toward the cabin doors.
"They found us," Maya gasped, grabbing Leo's hand.
"Stay behind the stone hearth," Arthur commanded, pulling a heavy iron poker from the fireplace. "Do not move, no matter what you hear."
The front door didn't just open—it exploded inward in a shower of splintered wood and metal. A flash-bang grenade clattered across the wooden floorboards, hissing brightly before detonating with a deafening BANG that filled the room with blinding white light and disorienting sound.
Before the smoke could clear, two tactical operatives rushed through the doorway, weapons leveled.
"Clear!" one shouted.
Arthur didn't hesitate. Leveraging the shadows of the dim cabin, he vaulted over the wooden table, bringing the heavy iron poker down in a swift, calculated arc that sent the first operative's assault rifle clattering across the floor. The second man lunged forward, but Arthur ducked beneath his grip, sweeping his legs out and sending him crashing heavily against the stone fireplace.
The operatives scrambled to recover, but a sudden, piercing wail echoed from outside.
It wasn't a police siren. It was a digital chime—thousands of them, ringing out simultaneously across every smartphone, laptop, and television screen within a hundred-mile radius.
One of the tactical officers paused, his radio crackling to life with frantic, panicked voices from Sterling headquarters.
