Chapter 15 - THE MIDNIGHT AUDIT AT THE FIRMBack at the Vale-Harrison headquarters, the city lights twinkled like a sea of diamonds against the midnight sky. Mara sat at her expansive walnut desk, reviewing the final restructuring documents for the charitable trust she had established in her son’s name.

Arthur Vance stood by the desk, holding a secure tablet. "The transfer of remaining liquid assets from Roman’s frozen Swiss accounts has cleared, Mara. The legal department has officially closed the docket. As far as the federal courts are concerned, the Vale Holdings liquidation is entirely finalized."
Mara looked up from her papers, her expression calm and composed. "Thank you, Arthur. Ensure that the scholarship grants for single mothers and victims of corporate financial abuse are disbursed immediately."
"It will be done," Arthur nodded respectfully before turning to leave the office. At the doorway, he paused, looking back with a hint of hesitation. "If I may ask, Mara... looking back at those three years under his roof, playing the dependent spouse while quietly assembling the federal case file... how did you manage to endure it?"
Mara leaned back in her leather executive chair, her gaze drifting toward the panoramic window reflecting her own strong, resolute reflection.

"When you realize someone is trying to cage you, Arthur, you don't break the bars," Mara said softly, her voice carrying a chilling, quiet power. "You study the blueprint, you master the locks, and you wait for the exact moment they turn their back. Because when an arrogant man believes he holds all the power, he forgets to check who holds the master keys."
Arthur gave a slow, understanding nod, stepped out of the office, and closed the heavy glass door soundlessly behind him.
