Chapter 25 - THE PREEMPTIVE STRIKEThe following morning, major news outlets across the country woke up to an unexpected press release issued directly by the Vale-Harrison Global Enterprise.

Instead of hiding from the rumored scandal, Mara Vale had called a live, televised global press conference in the grand auditorium of the downtown corporate headquarters. Cameras flashed blindingly as Mara walked onto the stage, wearing an immaculate navy blue dress, her posture tall and unyielding.
She didn't wait for the reporters to throw their questions. She took the podium, adjusted the microphone, and began speaking with absolute, unshakeable clarity.
"Good morning. Before the tabloids and desperate opportunists attempt to distort my family’s history for extortion and legal harassment, I am releasing our complete archival history to the public domain," Mara announced, her voice echoing clearly across the broadcast network. "Twenty-five years ago, my father served as a senior compliance officer who exposed a massive federal embezzlement ring within the banking sector. He paid for that integrity with his career, his safety, and our family’s peace. I built the Vale-Harrison Foundation not to hide from that legacy, but to honor it."
In his maximum-security cell block, Roman Vale sat glued to the small dayroom television screen, watching his grand extortion plot disintegrate in real-time.
"She’s preempting us," Roman muttered in disbelief, his hands gripping the metal table so hard his knuckles turned white. "She just published the whole thing herself. She took away the sting before I could even drop the poison."
Viktor Kane stepped up beside him, crossing his arms with a dark, cynical grin. "Looks like your ex-wife plays chess while you’re still playing checkers, Vale. She doesn't just block punches; she catches them and throws them back twice as hard."

Roman stared at the screen as Mara looked directly into the camera lens—not with fear, but with a look of absolute, unmitigated triumph.
"To anyone who believes the past can be used to cage my future," Mara concluded calmly, "let this be a reminder: you cannot blackmail a woman who has already walked through the fire and rebuilt the ashes into an empire."
