Chapter 28 - THE SEVENTH YEAR OF FREEDOMThree years passed in quiet, unstoppable momentum for the Vale-Harrison empire.

It was a crisp autumn morning, exactly seven years since the night Mara walked out of the penthouse into the freezing sleet. The city’s autumn leaves were painted in brilliant shades of gold and red as a sleek black luxury sedan pulled up to the grand entrance of an exclusive private academy in downtown.

Mara stepped out of the vehicle, wearing an elegant cream trench coat and matching sunglasses. She wasn't alone. Walking beside her was Julian Jr., now ten years old, carrying a heavy leather school backpack and chatting excitedly about his upcoming science fair project.

"Mom, do you think the judges will like the automated lock system I built with my magnetic blocks?" Julian asked, looking up at her with bright, intelligent eyes that mirrored her own quiet determination.

Mara smiled softly, kneeling down to adjust his collar. "If it’s built with precision, logic, and a foolproof security backup, they won't just like it, Julian—they'll recognize that no one can ever bypass it without permission."

Julian grinned, hugging her tightly before running up the stone steps toward the academy doors, blending seamlessly into a crowd of laughing, happy children.

Arthur Vance, who had accompanied them, handed Mara a slim corporate document as she stood back up. "The final international compliance audit for the foundation's European branches has cleared, Mara. We are officially debt-free, litigation-free, and operating at maximum transparency."

Mara looked out across the bustling city street, watching the morning traffic flow effortlessly beneath the soaring skyscrapers. She remembered the fear, the isolation, the contractions in the penthouse kitchen, and the seven unanswered calls glowing on a bedside screen.

None of that fear remained. It had all been forged into absolute, unshakeable strength.
