Chapter 5 - THE ENVELOPE’S SECRETBack in Room 402, Roman’s hands shook as he broke the wax seal of the envelope Mara had left behind. He pulled out a stack of heavy legal papers. The first page was a certified petition for emergency divorce, asset freezing, and sole custody, filed electronically at 11:45 p.m. the previous night.

But that wasn't what made his breath catch in his throat.
Attached to the divorce papers was a forensic financial audit stamped by the Federal Securities Commission, detailing three years of systemic embezzlement, shell companies, and fraudulent signatures—all tied directly to Roman’s personal holding corporation. At the bottom of the audit summary was a handwritten note from Mara:

“You built your empire on the assumption that I was invisible, Roman. You thought locking the nursery door would keep your secrets safe. But you forgot who helped you write the software that tracked every single offshore account. While you were drinking champagne with Celeste, the federal prosecutor was reviewing my deposition. By the time you read this, your corporate cards are blocked, your accounts are frozen, and you are officially locked out of the Vale Tower.”
Roman stared at the paper, his mind refusing to process the words. He reached frantically for his phone to call his chief financial officer, only for an automated system notification to flash across his screen: Access Denied. Account Under Federal Investigation.
