Chapter 4 - THE MIDNIGHT BETRAYAL ACROSS TOWNMiles away at the Glasshouse Conservatory, the mood was intoxicatingly luxurious. Roman swirled his vintage champagne, leaning across the candlelit table toward Celeste. "She’s probably calling every five minutes," Roman scoffed, chuckling darkly as his phone flashed in his pocket. "Let her sweat. Women like Mara need to be reminded of their place. If I answer every time she whimpers, she’ll think she controls the narrative."

Celeste smirked, tracing the rim of her glass with a manicured finger. "You’re ruthless, Roman. But are you sure she won't cause a scene? What about the corporate accounts we used for the penthouse reno?" "Relax," Roman waved a dismissive hand. "Mara doesn't know a balance sheet from a billboard. She’s entirely dependent on my family office. Everything is locked down tight."

What Roman didn’t know was that Celeste’s phone was suddenly buzzing violently in her evening bag. A private message had just landed from an anonymous source inside Roman’s own firm, bearing a single document attachment and a message: The audit is live. He doesn't know what she filed before she left. Celeste’s face drained of color, her smile instantly shattering. Without a word, she grabbed her coat, stood up from the table, and walked out, leaving Roman sitting alone in the amber light, entirely clueless that his empire had just suffered its first fatal blow.
