Chapter 11 - The Unopened LetterThe applause from Sofía’s piano recital still echoed warmly in Roberto’s mind as their limousine pulled back through the wrought-iron gates of the estate. But the moment the car parked, the heavy, sterile atmosphere of the mansion felt different.

Waiting on the main entrance console was a single, thick, cream-colored envelope.

There was no return address. Just a name written in sharp, elegant calligraphy: Roberto Silva.

Roberto stopped in his tracks, his hand hovering over the envelope. Arthur noticed the sudden shift in his posture and stepped up beside him, his cane tapping softly against the marble floor.

"Trouble?" Arthur asked quietly, his eyes narrowing at the foreign handwriting.

"I don't know," Roberto muttered, picking it up. The paper was heavy, expensive—not the kind of stationery used by common criminals, and certainly not something Julian Thorne could have mailed from his federal holding cell.

He tore open the wax seal and pulled out a single sheet of heavy cardstock. Scrawled across it in black ink were words that made his blood run cold:

"You buried a pawn, Roberto. But the board belongs to me. A game of true consequence is about to begin. Look closely at the foundation you built your empire on—it was never yours to keep." — V.K.

"V.K.," Roberto whispered, the initials tasting like poison.

"Viktor," Arthur said, his face draining of color as he leaned over to read the note. "Viktor Vance. The man Vanessa answered to before she ever set foot in New York. I thought he was just a syndicate boss in Monaco. If he has reached into your home..."

Before Arthur could finish his sentence, the mansion’s security system suddenly malfunctioned. All the smart lights flickered, turned blood-red for a split second, and then died completely. The automated backup generators kicked in with a low, ominous hum, but the main computer screens in Roberto's private study flashed a single, glaring warning:

System Compromised. Override Code Accepted.
