Chapter 23 - The Digital ConfessionRoberto didn't wait to return to New York. He sat at a private terminal in the Zurich airport lounge, plugging the encrypted USB drive directly into his secure laptop.

A single video file popped up on the screen, dated exactly three days before the fatal car crash years ago.

He clicked play.

The screen flickered to life, illuminating a dimly lit room. It was Elena. She looked younger, her eyes wide with a mixture of terror and fierce determination, speaking directly into a camera lens.

“If anyone is watching this recording,” Elena’s voice echoed softly through the laptop speakers, “it is because I am no longer safe. Julian Thorne has discovered that I copied the ledger of his illegal money-laundering syndicate. He threatened to go after my family—after Sofía. I am driving to meet the federal prosecutor tonight, but my brakes feel sluggish. If anything happens to me... do not let them win, Roberto.”

The video cut to black.

Roberto sat motionless in the dark airport lounge, staring at his own reflection in the glowing screen. For years, he had carried a crushing, silent guilt, believing that his own absence, his obsession with work, or some careless mistake of his own had somehow contributed to the tragedy of that night.

Now, the truth was laid bare. Elena hadn't been a victim of random fate. She had been a warrior who fought to protect her family until her final breath.

And Julian Thorne was paying for it in a federal prison cell—where he belonged.
