Chapter 4 - The Boardroom AmbushThe glass-walled conference room on the forty-fifth floor of Silva Global Holdings felt like a pressure cooker.

It was 9:00 AM on Monday morning. The quarterly strategic review meeting was scheduled to begin in five minutes, and the board members were murmuring anxiously among themselves. Rumors had been swirling since early morning about a massive leak concerning the downtown waterfront development project—the crown jewel of Silva Global’s upcoming portfolio.
Roberto walked in precisely on time. He wore a tailored charcoal suit, his expression carved from granite. Every trace of exhaustion from the sleepless night had been scrubbed away, replaced by a cold, lethal focus.
Seated near the far end of the long mahogany table was Julian Thorne.
Julian wore a smug, self-satisfied smirk, leaning back in his chair as if he already owned the building. Next to him sat a legal representative from Thorne Enterprises, holding a thick leather briefcase.
"Good morning, gentlemen," Roberto said smoothly, taking his seat at the head of the table. He didn't look at Julian. Instead, he scanned the faces of his board members. "Before we begin our standard review, I want to address a matter of urgent security and corporate integrity."
Julian cleared his throat, leaning forward with mock concern. "Forgive me, Roberto, but before you launch into your usual dramatics, my associates and I have an announcement that might save you some time."
Roberto raised an eyebrow. "Do tell, Julian."
"It has come to our attention," Julian said, his voice dripping with false sympathy, "that Silva Global’s confidential bidding strategy for the waterfront project has been heavily compromised. In fact, regulatory filings suggest that key financial models and proprietary design metrics have been leaked to external entities."
Murmurs erupted around the table. Board members exchanged nervous glances.
"That is a serious accusation, Julian," Roberto said calmly, resting his hands flat on the table. "And how would you happen to be so well-informed about internal leaks at Silva Global?"
Julian smiled broadly, signaling to his lawyer to open the briefcase. "Because, Roberto, under federal corporate governance laws, when a principal executive’s personal life and corporate security are severely compromised by illegal espionage—specifically involving household associates—competing firms have a fiduciary right to intervene to protect market stability."
The lawyer pulled out a thick stack of printed documents and slid them across the table toward Roberto.
"These documents," the lawyer announced loudly, "contain verified data streams proving that confidential project models were transmitted from an IP address registered to your private residence over the weekend. Furthermore, we have sworn affidavits from your wife, Vanessa Silva, stating that she witnessed systemic insider trading and ethical violations within your private operations."
The room went dead silent. All eyes turned to Roberto, waiting for him to panic, to deny it, to shatter under the weight of the accusation.

Instead, Roberto let out a slow, terrifying laugh.
He didn't touch the documents. He simply picked up his laser pointer, aimed it at the massive smart screen behind him, and pressed a button on his remote.
