Chapter 14 - The Standoff in the DarkThe cold black muzzle of the gun stared right into Roberto’s eyes. For a fraction of a second, the billionaire weighed his options—rush the intruder and risk a bullet, or hold his ground and wait for an opening.

Before Roberto could move, a heavy metallic clanking sound echoed from the outer study.
Arthur Sterling stepped into the threshold of the hidden vault, holding a heavy vintage hunting shotgun he had retrieved from the estate’s upstairs armory. The barrel was aimed dead center at Darius’s back.
"Drop the weapon, son," Arthur’s voice boomed with cold, undeniable authority, carrying decades of old-world grit.
Darius froze. His eyes darted toward the reflection in the glass cabinet, calculating the angles. He realized he was caught in a crossfire between a furious billionaire and an old man with nothing left to lose.
With a slow, calculated smirk, Darius raised his empty hand. "You got me, old man. But you're missing the bigger picture."
"I don't care about the picture," Roberto snapped, lunging forward with lightning speed.
Before Darius could pivot his weapon, Roberto struck—a brutal, calculated punch straight to the intruder's jaw that sent Darius crashing backward into the metal shelving. The encrypted satellite phone slipped from his hand, clattering against the stone floor.
Arthur didn't hesitate. He stepped forward and brought the butt of the shotgun down hard across Darius’s shoulder, dropping the operative to his knees in a daze.
"Tie him up, Arthur," Roberto said, breathing heavily as he picked up the dropped satellite phone.
Viktor Vance’s voice was still crackling faintly from the speaker on the floor: “...Hello? Darius? Status report?”

Roberto crouched down, picked up the phone, and brought it directly to his ear. "Your man is out of commission, Viktor," Roberto said, his voice dripping with pure ice. "And if you ever step foot near my daughter or my home again, I won't just destroy your syndicate. I will personally deliver you to the federal authorities to rot in a dark cell for the rest of your natural life."
A tense, heavy silence hung over the line for three long seconds. Then, Viktor let out a cold, chilling laugh before abruptly disconnecting the call.
