Chapter 14 - The Syndicate’s New Order

The underground council chambers beneath the Chicago shipping yards had been completely remodeled. Gone were the smoky, dimly lit rooms where rival capos argued over territory with hidden weapons. In their place was a modern, minimalist boardroom lined with polished steel and bulletproof glass.

Luca Moretti sat at the head of the long obsidian table, flanked by his most trusted capos and security chiefs. To his immediate right sat Naomi, wearing a sharp, tailored ivory blazer that signaled her equal partnership in the syndicate's new governance.

"The port expansion in Montreal is officially completed," Marcus Vance—now serving as the legitimate logistics director under strict Moretti oversight—reported, sliding a digital tablet down the table. "Customs clearance is automated, and federal oversight committees have given our shipping lanes a clean bill of health."

A senior capo further down the table shifted uncomfortably. "And the remnants of the Detroit faction?"

"Handled," Luca replied, his voice dropping into a cold, lethal register that silenced the room instantly. "They tried to test our borders last night. Their shipments were seized, their warehouses liquidated, and their leadership invited to a permanent retirement. The Moretti name is no longer negotiable."

Naomi caught Luca’s eye across the table. There was no bloodlust in his gaze—only absolute protection. The underworld had learned a terrifying lesson: the Moretti family was no longer just a criminal syndicate; it was an unassailable empire governed by iron discipline and an unyielding queen.
