Chapter 5 - The Banishment

Vivien stumbled backward until the edge of the mahogany table bit into her spine. Her polished mask was completely gone, replaced by a snarling, desperate mask of fury. "You fools! You think killing me stops it? The syndicate owns half of Chicago! They’ll burn this estate to the ground before sunrise!"
Luca didn't blink. He didn't raise his voice. He simply raised two fingers.
Four armed guards materialized from the hallway, their faces grim and stone-cold.

"Take her to the subterranean warehouse beneath the docks," Luca commanded, his voice like grinding ice. "Strip her of every asset, every diamond, every designer stitch she brought into this house. Lock her in the salt room. And make sure she stays breathing—I want her alive to watch every single one of her co-conspirators hunted down and fed to the fishes."
"Luca! No! You can't do this to me! I am a Cole!" Vivien screamed, her voice turning into a feral shriek as the guards grabbed her arms, hoisting her off her feet and dragging her screaming down the polished hallway, her frantic curses fading into the howling Chicago sleet.
