Six months after the night of the broken door, the Chicago underworld had settled into a terrified, reverent peace. The Moretti dynasty was stronger, richer, and more untouchable than it had ever been in its century-long history.

Yet inside the estate, changes were happening that stunned the old-guard mafia bosses.

Isabella’s health had miraculously improved, largely due to the rigorous physical therapy regimen and emotional peace Naomi had enforced across the household. The old woman could now walk short distances with a cane, and her laughter—once a rare, fractured sound—frequently echoed through the grand dining hall.

One evening in late June, Luca stood by the floor-to-ceiling windows of his private study, watching the sunset paint Lake Michigan in shades of bruised purple and gold. A soft knock sounded at the door, and Naomi entered, holding a leather-bound ledger.

"The shipping manifests from the Port of Montreal have cleared customs," Naomi said, setting the ledger on his mahogany desk. "No contraband flags, no federal inspections. Everything is clean."

Luca turned away from the window. He didn't look at the ledger. He looked at her.

She wore a simple, elegant emerald-green silk dress that contrasted sharply with the stark white collar of her former maid’s uniform. She had grown comfortable in her power, her posture carrying an innate grace that commanded absolute respect.

"You spend too much time auditing shipping logs, Naomi," Luca said, his voice a low, smooth purr.
