Chapter 13 - THE VULTURE'S LAST STAND

While Michael crossed the Atlantic inside the soundproof cabin of his Gulfstream jet, a different kind of storm was brewing back in Boston.

Julian Vance—the disgraced former corporate rival who had spent the last year nursing a bitter grudge against anyone bearing the Thornton name—was sitting in a dim corner booth of an upscale Back Bay cigar lounge. Across from him sat a disgraced former partner of Thornton Enterprises' legal division who had been quietly let go months prior.

“The board in London is divided,” the lawyer whispered, sliding a confidential folder across the leather table. “If Michael signs the Friday papers, he locks down majority voting shares for the next decade. We can’t let him make that meeting.”

Julian’s lips curled into a venomous, calculating smile. “He thinks he’s untouchable because he left his security detail guarding a nurse and a kid in Boston. But what happens to a man like Michael Thornton when the things he loves most suddenly vanish while he’s thousands of miles away in the air?”

The lawyer paled slightly. “Julian... what are you planning? Kidnapping is federal—!”

“Who said anything about kidnapping?” Julian interrupted smoothly, swirling his amber scotch. “We don't need to take them. We just need to make sure Michael receives a message he can never, ever ignore.”
