Chapter 18 - THE PERFECT SHOT

From the shadows behind the wrecked SUV, Marcus silently slipped through a side personnel door, leveling a specialized tactical rifle with laser sights directly at Julian’s right shoulder.

“Boss, I have a clear shot,” Marcus whispered through the encrypted comms tucked inside Michael’s ear. “Give the word.”

Michael held up a subtle two-finger gesture, signaling Marcus to hold fire. He didn't want to risk a single stray ricochet near Lily.

“You lost, Julian,” Michael said, taking a slow, calculated step forward to draw the attention entirely onto himself. “Your corporate coup failed. Your shell accounts are frozen. You’re standing in an abandoned hangar in Maine holding a little girl because you’re a coward who couldn't beat me in a boardroom.”

“Shut up! Shut up!” Julian screamed, his finger twitching nervously against the trigger. “I’ll kill her! I swear to God I’ll—!”

Lily didn't cry. She remembered what she told him the first night they met. She looked past Julian’s trembling arm and locked her bright green eyes straight onto Michael.

“Mr. Bear says you can do it, Daddy,” she whispered bravely.

That single word—Daddy—hit Michael with the force of a freight train. All the fear vanished, replaced by an absolute, terrifying clarity.

He didn't draw a gun. He moved with blinding, explosive speed.

With a roar, Michael lunged forward, grabbing a heavy iron wrench off a nearby workbench and hurling it with military-grade precision directly at Julian’s wrist.

CRACK.

The heavy wrench struck Julian’s hand with bone-shattering force. The revolver flew out of his grip, clattering across the concrete floor.

Before Julian could even scream, Michael closed the distance, grabbed him by the collar, and drove his fist straight into Julian’s jaw with enough force to lift the grown man off his feet before slamming him hard into the concrete.

Julian went limp instantly, out cold.
