Chapter 3 - The Freezing Tides Turn"This is a prank!" Diane shrieked, her voice cracking into an ugly, desperate register. She lunged forward, grabbing Arthur’s lapels. "You’re an imposter! I’ll call the board of directors! I’ll have security drag you out of here—!"

"What board, Diane?" Arthur asked coldly, gently removing her trembling hands from his suit. "Half of them were arrested ten minutes ago for corporate espionage and tax evasion. The other half resigned as soon as Protocol 7 hit the wire."

As if on cue, the heavy mahogany front doors swung open again.

This time, it wasn't lawyers. It was local law enforcement, accompanied by federal marshals in tactical gear. Their heavy boots echoed through the foyer like thunder.

"Diane Morrison?" the lead federal agent asked, holding up a warrant. "And Brendan Morrison? You are both under federal investigation for grand larceny, securities fraud, and laundering corporate funds through phantom accounts. You have the right to remain silent—"

"Wait! There’s been a mistake!" Brendan yelled, panicking as two officers stepped forward and grabbed his arms, forcing his hands behind his back. "We didn't do anything! Ask her! Cassidy, tell them! We’re married! Tell them it's a joke!"

I tilted my head, looking down at him with the exact same expression of cold amusement Diane had worn when she poured freezing water over my head.

"Look on the bright side, Brendan," I said softly, echoing his mother’s exact words. "At least you finally get free housing."

Jessica shrieked as an officer gently placed a pair of zip-ties around her wrists. "Get your hands off me! Do you know who my father is? He’s a senator!"

"Your father’s campaign was entirely funded by Apex Global," Arthur noted dryly, checking his watch. "I believe his bank accounts were frozen at 6:14 PM as well. He’ll be joining you in holding shortly."
