Chapter 4 - Stripped to the BoneWithin twenty minutes, the multimillion-dollar Morrison estate looked less like a home and more like a crime scene. Federal agents slapped neon yellow seizure stickers across the priceless artwork, the grand piano, and the antique display cases.

Diane collapsed onto the foyer floor, weeping loudly, clutching the hem of her designer dress as if it could protect her from the cold reality setting in. All her wealth, her social status, her country club memberships, and her arrogance—wiped out in a single keystroke.

"My pearls... my diamond earrings..." Diane sobbed, looking up at me with eyes full of raw, unadulterated hatred. "You vile, ungrateful bitch. You let us feed you. You let us give you a roof—"

"A roof over my head?" I laughed, a sharp, humorless sound. "Diane, this house was purchased under a blind trust in my name before Brendan and I even met. You were living in my house, eating my food, and spitting on my floor."

Brendan was pushed against the wall by a federal marshal, his designer suit wrinkled and stained with spilled wine. He stared at me like I was a ghost. "Cassidy... why? If you were so rich... why did you let us treat you like garbage? Why didn't you say anything?"

"Because," I stepped right up to him, my eyes burning into his, "if I had told you who I was on day one, I never would have seen your true colors. I wanted to see how a man who inherited everything treats someone he thinks has nothing."

Brendan’s face twisted in horror as he realized the magnitude of his own stupidity. He had thrown away a multi-billion-dollar empire, a devoted wife, and his entire future because of arrogance and greed.
