Chapter 11 - The Shadow of JessicaWhile Brendan was learning what it meant to sleep on a park bench, his former fiancée Jessica was fighting her own desperate war of survival in the high-society trenches.

Jessica had always believed her beauty and her father’s political connections were armor against the world. But the moment Protocol 7 froze her father’s campaign accounts, her high-society friends vanished like morning mist. Her phone calls went straight to voicemail. Her boutique charge accounts were blocked.
Standing in front of a luxury boutique in downtown Manhattan, wearing a last-season designer coat and sunglasses to hide her tear-stained face, Jessica glared at the glossy fashion magazines plastered across the window.
On the cover, staring right back at her with calm, absolute authority, was me.
“CASSIDY VANCE: THE WOMAN WHO REDEFINED GLOBAL POWER,” the headline screamed in bold gold letters.
Jessica’s nails dug into her palms until skin broke. "It should have been me," she hissed under her breath, shivering in the autumn chill. "That brat didn't earn any of it! She stole it from Brendan!"

"Actually, Miss Vance built Apex Global from scratch when she was nineteen," a cool, professional voice spoke from behind her.
Jessica spun around. Arthur stood there, holding a black leather briefcase, flanked by two towering security guards. His expression was polite, but his eyes were like shards of ice.
