Chapter 17 - A Mother's StrengthBack at the Apex Tower penthouse, the city lights twinkled like a sea of diamonds far below.

I sat in the plush nursery rocking chair, holding little Victoria close to my chest. Her soft, rhythmic breathing was the most comforting sound in the world. The trauma of that dreadful dinner party felt like a lifetime ago, washed away by the absolute peace of my new reality.
Arthur knocked softly on the open nursery door before stepping inside, holding a final dossier.
"The federal prosecutors have accepted all our forensic evidence," Arthur reported quietly, keeping his voice low so as not to wake the baby. "The Morrison trials will begin next month. With the sheer volume of financial crimes, none of them will see freedom for at least a decade."
"And Brendan?" I asked, looking down at my sleeping daughter.

"He was picked up for vagrancy this afternoon," Arthur sighed. "He tried to beg outside our corporate headquarters, ironically enough. Security moved him along before he even knew whose building he was standing in front of."
I nodded slowly, feeling no pity—only a profound sense of closure. "Let him wander, Arthur. The world has many lessons to teach him, and he’s a very slow learner."
