Claire stared at the tablet on her desk, her breath catching in her throat. The article—an anonymous investigative piece—claimed that the emergency funds Julian had used to rescue her and finance her company had originated from unverified, offshore accounts tied to a questionable corporate shell company. It implied that Julian had committed securities fraud to protect her.

The intercom buzzed sharply.

"Mrs. Vance," Marcus’s voice crackled, tense and urgent. "You need to come down to the trading floor immediately. Stock prices for Vance Holdings just took an unprovoked hit, and the SEC has initiated a preliminary inquiry."
