Chapter 8 - The Golden Cage

Two months later, the penthouse atop the Vance Tower offered a panoramic view of a Manhattan bathed in the golden hues of a crisp autumn sunset. Inside the sprawling, minimalist-chic nursery, three healthy, thriving infants slept peacefully in custom hand-carved mahogany cribs, surrounded by an army of specialized pediatric nurses.
Claire stood by the floor-to-ceiling glass window, watching the city lights flicker to life far below. Her phone buzzed on the marble counter—yet another missed call from Ethan, whose life had completely imploded. Stripped of his wealth, abandoned by Sabrina the moment the Hollywood starlet realized he was financially ruined, Ethan was currently facing federal indictment for white-collar crimes.
A pair of strong, familiar arms wrapped gently around her waist from behind, pulling her back against a warm, solid chest.
"Stop looking at ghosts, Claire," Julian murmured, resting his chin softly against her hair.
She leaned back into him, letting out a soft sigh. "I'm not looking at ghosts, Julian. I'm just... still amazed that this is real. Six months ago, I was sleeping on a bus floor."
Julian turned her around in his arms, his dark eyes burning with an intense, unyielding devotion that he reserved for her alone. He reached into his pocket and pulled out a velvet box, snapping it open to reveal a diamond ring that put her old engagement ring to shame—a massive, flawless Kashmir sapphire surrounded by white diamonds.
"You weren't sleeping on a bus floor, Claire," Julian said softly, slipping the heavy ring onto her finger. "You were simply waiting for the man who knew your true worth."
Claire looked up at him, her heart swelling with a fierce, burning love she never knew she was capable of feeling. "And what if I told you I'm never leaving?"

Julian smiled—a rare, breathtaking smile that softened the hard edges of the most feared billionaire in New York.
"Good," he whispered, pressing his lips to hers. "Because I already rewrote the contract. And this time, there is no expiration date."
