Chapter 13 - The Resistance CellInside, the safe room was surprisingly well-preserved. It featured a metal bunk bed, a small medical cabinet stocked with sterile supplies, and an old computer terminal humming quietly in the corner.

David gently laid Tommy on the lower bunk, while Clara immediately set to work sanitizing a damp cloth to cool the baby's forehead. Within minutes, Tommy's breathing began to steady as his temperature dropped.
"Thank God," Clara whispered, pressing a kiss to her son's sweaty brow before collapsing onto the edge of the bed in sheer exhaustion.
David walked over to the humming computer terminal. The screen was locked behind a command-line interface, flashing a blinking cursor. Without thinking, he typed in the same numerical override code Clara had used for the door.
To his shock, the screen didn't display an error message. Instead, the monitor flickered to life, revealing a secure, encrypted messaging window that was actively receiving data packets.
Incoming transmission from: UNKNOWN ENCLAVE.
David’s heart skipped a beat. He motioned for Clara to come over. She stared at the screen, her eyes widening in disbelief.
"It's not the syndicate," Clara breathed, reading the scrolling text on the screen. "It's an internal whistleblower network within Vanguard Financial. Former auditors and security analysts who tried to expose the Obsidian Syndicate years ago and went dark."
A live text prompt blinked on the screen: "Vance family, if you are reading this, stay put. We know Sterling has hunted you into the subway grid. We are sending an extraction team to your coordinates within the hour. Do not trust anyone else."
Before David could type a reply, the heavy steel door of the safe room shuddered under a massive, deafening blow from the outside.
