Chapter 20 - The Unbroken Circle

The salty sea breeze whipped through the trees as Dante, Lena, and Sophia walked along the cliffside path overlooking the crashing waves below. Sophia ran ahead, dragging her yellow blanket behind her like a tiny, victorious banner, her laughter mingling with the sound of the wind and the gulls.

Dante walked beside Lena, his hands tucked casually into the pockets of his wool coat, his eyes never leaving the little girl.

"Thank you, Dante," Lena said softly, looking out at the endless horizon. "For everything. I never thought I could have a life like this."

"Neither did I," Dante replied quietly, stopping to watch Sophia bend down to pick up a smooth grey pebble. He turned to Lena, his dark eyes softening completely. "When she knocked on my door that stormy night... I thought she was just an interruption. I didn't know she was the key to unlocking every door I had welded shut."

Suddenly, Sophia turned around, holding up the grey pebble like a precious jewel, running back toward them as fast as her small legs could carry her.

"Mr. Dante! Look! A treasure!" she yelled.

Dante crouched down, catching her in his arms as she launched herself forward, lifting her up into the air with a bright, unreserved laugh. Lena stepped closer, wrapping her arms around both of them, completing a circle of warmth and protection that no syndicate, no shadow, and no past could ever break again.

Far away in Geneva, Viktor Vance slammed his fist onto his desk in frustrated fury as the live drone feed showed the unbreakable bond on the cliffside. But in the grand estate by the private road, and out under the vast, open sky, the silence was finally gone—replaced forever by the sound of a home, fully lived in, and a door that would never be locked again.
