Chapter 14 - The Trap Springs

Julian’s smug expression vanished in a microsecond.
"This is a joke! A fabricated charge!" he yelled, standing up so fast his chair crashed backward onto the marble floor. "You have no proof!"
"We have the original IP address from the forged document," Detective Miller said, snapping the steel cuffs onto Julian’s wrists with practiced efficiency. "It pings directly to your penthouse apartment in downtown Denver, Julian. Along with recorded phone calls between you and Victor Vance planning the break-in at Mrs. Carter’s estate."
As the federal agents hauled Julian away in handcuffs, kicking and screaming obscenities, the board members let out a collective breath of sheer disbelief and admiration.
Thomas Sterling leaned back in his seat, shaking his head. "You played him, Elena. You knew he would make a move for the company."

"If you want to kill a snake, you have to let it slither out of the grass," I said coldly, gathering my files. "Meeting adjourned."
But even as Julian was led away to join Michael in federal custody, a lingering dread remained in the back of my mind. Julian had mentioned a "primary creditor." If he was just a proxy, who was pulling the ultimate strings behind the curtain?
